K5600 Lighting Joker 1600w HMI Light

 

The K5600 Lighting Joker 1600w HMI Light is a client and staff favorite over here at LVR. The 1600w is the brightest daylight HMI K5600 has to offer, with the 800w coming in next. However, the 800w Joker-Bug outputs only half as much light as the 1600w. Moreover, the 1600w Joker Beamer weighs only 15 pounds! Considering how bright this light can get, 15 pounds is slight. Finally, it features a length of 18.5 inches with an 8” diameter.

The Electronic Power Supply

The flicker-less ballast for this joker isn’t playing around either. It can run on a circuit that is 15 amps / 120 volts. Additionally, it is dimmable up to 50% and has different frequency options for shooting at high speeds. Moreover, this ballast “is not only quiet, but smaller than comparable ballasts (even those of less wattage).” – K5600 Lighting At no taller or wider than a sheet of computer paper, this ballast weighs in at 13 pounds.

Emerging Cinematographer Awards

International Cinematographers Guild’s annual Emerging Cinematographer Awards (ECA) will take place on October 28th at SVA Theater in New York. The ECA has showcases short films created by some of the best up-and-coming cinematographers in the industry. Past winners have gone on to work on projects such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Hustle and Flow, the X-Files, CSI, and more. We can’t wait to see what’s in store this year!

 

Gold Coast International Film Festival

The Gold Coast International Film Festival will be taking place in in North Hempstead, Long Island, from November 2nd to the 13th. This incredible, week-long festival includes screenings, parties, workshops, conversations with VIPs of the film industry and more. It brings together community members, academics, film fans and aficionados and beyond. Cooke Anamorphic /i Full Frame Plus Lenses

The world’s first full-frame anamorphic lenses are ALMOST here!

Earlier this month, Cooke Optics announced the release of their new line of lenses: the Cooke Anamorphic /i Full Frame Plus Lenses. As far we know now, there will be seven different focal lengths dropping this year – 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm, 135mm and 180mm – all of which are T2.3. The 50mm will be the first of the focal lengths released with the others following throughout the next year.

These lenses will have an image circle large enough to cover a 24×36 still size sensor. In addition, while most anamorphic lenses have a squeeze of 2, Cooke’s new anamorphics will feature a squeeze of 1.8. According to chairman of Cooke, Les Zellan, this decision was not taken lightly.

“After a great deal of research and discussion, we believe the 1.8 squeeze of the Anamorphic/i Full Frame Plus range gives the best results for full frame anamorphic. At 2x you would lose too many pixels, and at 1.6x (the correct ratio to use every pixel) you will not get enough of the anamorphic character. Our solution at 1.8x gives the image a greater anamorphic feel at the aspect ratio of 2.40:1 whilst capturing 90% of the pixels, therefore keeping this format well within industry resolution standards. However, because these are Full Frame Plus lenses designed to cover the full still frame of 24×36, you can elect to use 100% of the pixels which will result in an aspect ratio of 2.70:1.”

SkyPanel S120-C LED Light

So, as we know, ARRI’s LED Soft Light SkyPanels come in a range of shapes and sizes: S30, S60, S120, S360. However, this post (for the most part) is going to focus on the SkyPanel S120-C.

The S120-C is perhaps the most intermediate of the S series lights. It features a light aperture of 1290mm x 300mm, making it large enough to fulfill a large number of applications. Meanwhile, it is approximately the same weight as the S60, though the S60 has half the light aperture. This increased aperture size means nicer light, and more of it. The S360 has an even larger light aperture, at nearly six times that of an S60. However, they weigh in at close to 100lbs, making them slightly more difficult to move or reposition.

All lights in the SkyPanel ‘C’ line have a color temperature able to be adjusted from 2,800K to 10,000K. They also feature full +/- green correction with the turn of a knob. Additionally, the user has full control of the vividness and the saturation of the color.

DJI Force Pro

This week, we’re focusing on the DJI Force Pro. Because, who doesn’t like wireless camera movement control?

The Force Pro from DJI is an incredibly accurate innovation in wireless camera movement control. By using the Force Pro, operators can stand across set whilst still controlling their gimbal mounted camera. Additionally, the synchronization between operator movement and camera movement makes this tool incredibly intuitive.

The DJI Force Pro communicates with your gimbal so quickly and effectively, your camera will move with you in (almost real) time. Furthermore, interference between your camera and wireless controller is now a thing of the past. The Force Pro features a dual-frequency 2.4 and 5.8 GHz wireless transmission system. This means you can control your camera from up to 3 kilometers away! However, this remote does also feature the capability for wired connection.

 

The buttons to control your camera or gimbal on the Force Pro are integrated into the front screen, making it very user-friendly. Additionally, this unit features up to 5 hours of battery life. The Force Pro can be connected to monitors, video transmission systems, and more. It can even be mounted onto a tripod!

As of yet, the DJI Force Pro is only compatible with the Ronin-2 and Ronin-S as well as third-party gimbals that support an S-BUS connection. However, DJI claims in the future we will see the Force Pro become compatible with more and more systems.
